In a joint operation conducted by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and the intelligence department, two individuals have been arrested at Agartala railway station for illegal entry into India and attempting to cross the state by train.
According to Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Government Railway Police, the arrested individuals include one Bangladeshi citizen and one Indian broker. The Bangladeshi national, identified as Shyamal Chandra Barman (23) from Gaibandha district, Bangladesh, illegally entered India and was accompanied by Abhijit Sarkar alias Prem (32), a resident of Trisha Bari, Teliamura Police Station, Khowai district.
The operation was carried out based on confidential information, and during initial interrogation, the duo revealed plans to travel onward to Kolkata by train.
The arrested men are currently being interrogated at the Agartala GRP police station. Police officials indicated that further arrests may be imminent as the investigation continues and more information is expected to surface.
A case has been registered at the Agartala GRP police station, and the accused are scheduled to be produced before the court tomorrow.
