The Tripura State Rifles (TSR), renowned as an elite counter-insurgency force, is currently gearing up for election duty in various regions across India. Recent reports indicate that 20 companies, totaling 1,600 personnel, of the TSR have already been dispatched to Maharashtra and Bihar to oversee security measures during the ongoing parliamentary elections, which commenced on April 19.
With the parliamentary elections progressing, the focus now shifts to Himachal Pradesh and Odisha, where the TSR jawans are slated to be deployed. These deployments align with the upcoming electoral processes, encompassing simultaneous polling for the 147-member Assembly and 21 Lok Sabha seats across four phases scheduled between May 13 and June 1.
Notably, the TSR has a distinguished track record of service beyond its native Tripura. In addition to their pivotal role in ensuring security during the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, the TSR's India Reserve (IR) battalions have been instrumental in election security operations across numerous states. As per the mandates of the Ministry of Home Affairs, these battalions can be mobilized anywhere in the country as necessitated by the electoral requirements.
