In a major breakthrough, the Assam Rifles in a joint operation with the Customs department seized 30,000 Methamphetamine tablets worth Rs 4.8 crore and arrested two drug peddlers from the outskirts of Agartala, officials said on Saturday. 

With a significant improvement in the overall flood situation in Tripura, around 86 per cent of the worst affected people who took shelter in 558 relief camps across the state, have returned to their homes since the last one week, an official said here on Friday.

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Friday appointed party functionaries as AICC Secretaries and Joint Secretaries in different states, assigning them to work with the respective General Secretaries and In-charges with immediate effect.

Fresh tensions erupted in West Tripura district's Jirania on Thursday after the police arrested five persons in connection with the attacks, vandalism and arson of minority houses, properties and vehicles following the defacing of an idol at a Kali temple, an official said.

The BSF further said that in separate operations BSF troops seized 26 kg Ganja from the area of BOP Bamutia under West Tripura District and in the area of BOP Rahimpur under District Sepahijala.

The royal scion and former chairman of Tipra Motha, Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma on Thursday has announced that he will provide Rs 50,000 in financial aid to the families who lost their loved ones due to the floods that affected the state from August 19 to August 24.

After a week's closure due to flooding, all educational institutions in Tripura would reopen from Tuesday (August 27) except those schools which have been converted into relief camps, an official said on Monday.

Train services in large parts of Tripura and some parts of Mizoram have been stopped for nearly a week now as the railway tracks were badly damaged due to the recent floods in the two northeastern states, officials said on Monday.

Numerous women from different walks of life here on Sunday evening organised a rally to protest the brutal rape-murder of a woman doctor in Kolkata and the lynching of a government school teacher in Tripura.
