Wild elephants ransack houses, kills cattle at Tilbhum

CHURAIBARI:

Altogether two cows, three goats and a dog died and two dwelling huts ransacked by the attack of wild elephants at Madagaon of Tilbhum situated at Assam-Tripura Border in last night.

Sources said that a herd of wild elephant comprising six elephants attacked the area when all inhabitants were in deep sleep. The villagers wake up by the roar and sound of ransacking house by the wild animals. All of a sudden they fled away from the house.

Some of the villagers injured at the time fleeing in darkness of night. Some of the villagers tried drive out the elephants by the sound of kashi, bell and bursting cracker. But the old method failed to drive out the herd of angry elephants.

However the elephants left the village at early morning after continuing series of destruction. Although panic is prevailing among the villagers even after leaving the herd of elephants as they are apprehending second attack to another house in next night.

Sources said that the jumbos ransacked the houses and dwelling hut of Sandip Das and Swapan Sarkar. Besides, at least 5 cattle and one dog were killed on being stamped under the feet of the wild animals.

Meanwhile resentment prevailing among villagers as Forest Officer of Patharkandi Forest Division Sukhdeb Saha has not arrived in spite of being informed to visit the spot. From information it revealed that the herd of elephant attacked Medali area before one month and demolished many houses.
