A caretaking nurse had been asked to take bath from a nearby pond before entering the rented house by his landlords in fear of viral infection, police said today.
The nurse identified as Namita Debbarma, a care-taking nurse associated with Urmila Nursing Care, hail from Jirania. She was living in Agartala since last few years and nursing patients in home located in various parts of the city. The incident took place on Thursday last, when she had been asked by her landlord to vacate her room.
According to Namita, she had been given two choices. Either she could continue her professional exercises or she could live in the rented room belong to one Sanjib Kumar Das located at Lalbahadur area of Agartala.
Soon after she had been served with such fanatical ultimatum despite stringent laws in action, the authority of Urmila Nursing care went to her house to convince the property owners. However, the landlords continued their errant attitude and asked the lady to take a bath in the Lalbahadur pond before entering their house whenever she return from duty.
“The landlord asked her to take a bath prior entering the house in front of me. In such a crisis situation when the entire medical fraternity is working wholeheartedly to serve the mankind, the landlord Sanjib Kumar Das and his wife have been spotted showing their own attitude with no respect towards them”, one of the key members of Urmila Nursing Care Soumitra Biswas said.
Later, he said, police of East Agartala Police station have been involved to sort out the issue. But, even the police failed to convince them about the dire consequences as per the law and directed the Urmila team to lodge complaint with the SDM.
Expressing satisfaction over the response, Biswas added, “The civil administration served notice to the landlord within a day and lodged an FIR”. However, the owners later got convinced by a joint meeting convened by the local club and Urmila Nursing authorities and allowed her to stay in the rented room. The girl once again started to stay at the rented house from today. She returned to her residence at Jirania after she was denied entry at her rented house.
