The Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Nikhil Khadse, during her official visit to Kailasahar on Wednesday, announced that she would soon take up the matter of reviving the abandoned Kailasahar Airport with the concerned Union Minister.
She mentioned that a formal proposal regarding the reopening of the airport has already been submitted to the Central Government and that she would pursue the matter personally.
The Minister was addressing a high-level development review meeting held at the Circuit House Conference Hall in Kailasahar under the banner of “Purvottar Sampark Setu". The meeting focused on reviewing the implementation of Central Government flagship schemes in Unakoti District.
Minister Khadse said, “Since Prime Minister Narendra Modi assumed office, special attention has been given to the development of the Northeastern states. Various flagship programs have been launched to boost economic growth in the region.” She further added that reviving Kailasahar Airport could significantly boost **tourism and economic activity in the area.
State Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, MP Kriti Devi Debbarma, Director of Sports Satyabrata Nath, District Magistrate Dr. Tamal Majumdar, Additional District Magistrate L. Darlong, SDM of Kailashahar and Kumarghat, and heads of all line departments from the district were present in the meeting.
During the meeting, both Minister Tinku Roy and DM Dr. Tamal Majumdar presented a comprehensive report on the district’s development through documentary and statistical data. The Union Minister took stock of the progress and effectiveness of flagship Central Government programs in the district and expressed satisfaction with the pace of development.
The Union Minister later visited several ongoing developmental projects across the sub-division and also toured the Unakoti tourism site.
