Emphasizing Tripura’s crucial role in safeguarding national security and maintaining regional integrity, Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu on Monday called upon the state’s youth to actively consider joining the armed forces and contributing to the nation’s defense.
Addressing a gathering of ex-servicemen at the Agartala Military Station, the Governor said Tripura holds significant geographical importance and plays a vital role in the country’s security architecture. He noted that many young people in the state aspire to serve in the armed forces and encouraged retired military personnel to act as mentors and motivators for the younger generation.
“By sharing their stories of service, sacrifice, and real-life experiences, ex-servicemen can inspire the youth to dedicate themselves to the service of the nation,” the Governor said.
He also paid tribute to the invaluable contribution of “Veer Naris” (war widows), stating that they play a unique and courageous role in supporting the nation’s defense efforts. “While soldiers remain deployed at the borders, it is the brave women at home who shoulder family responsibilities single-handedly. Their sacrifice and strength are deeply respected by society,” he added.
The Governor further stated that the government is committed to ensuring the overall welfare of ex-servicemen and their families. He assured that various initiatives are being undertaken to secure their healthcare, financial stability, and social security.
Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar also addressed the gathering. Among others present were Major General Shubhankar Basu, VSM, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 57 Mountain Division; Major General Indrajit Singh Bhinder, Inspector General, Assam Rifles (East); Brigadier Nishant Chandel, Sector Commander of 21 Assam Rifles; and Bimbisar Bhattacharjee, Director of the Information and Cultural Affairs Department.
During the event, the Governor felicitated several ex-servicemen and Veer Naris in recognition of their service and sacrifice. He also visited various exhibition stalls organized on the occasion.
