The state transport and tourism minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that the government is contemplating to develop eco-tourism in Unakoti Sonamukhi tourist place and introduce toy train services for the tourists.
“The Unakoti tourist destination, which is under the Archeological Survey of India and achieved heritage tourism destination tag shall be developed further to ecotourism. Toy train will be introduced soon in the tourist destination,” Chowdhury said, adding that Rs 70 Crore will be spent for the development work.
He said that to further enhance the tourism sector and also to facilitate the tourists from abroad, the government is mulling to establish a special tourism circuit in South Tripura, which will offer package tours covering major attractions such as the Pilak archaeological site in Jolaibari, Mahamuni Buddhist Pagoda, Maitri Setu, and Trishna Wildlife Sanctuary.
“Multifaceted initiative has been taken by the government to boost the Tripura tourism, which aims to ensure sustainable livelihood opportunities for the unemployed youths of the state,” he said, adding that it is not possible to ensure government job for all, so in that case, the government is focused on ensuring sustainable livelihood opportunities through the tourism industry.
