In a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, police of Teliamura police station apprehended two individuals with brown sugar valued at over ₹5 lakh.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team launched a swift operation near the Trishabari area adjacent to Teliamura Railway Station. During the operation, the police intercepted two youths whose behavior aroused suspicion. Upon conducting a thorough search, they discovered a substantial quantity of brown sugar concealed on the suspects.
Officer-in-Charge of Teliamura Police Station, Rajib Debnath, confirmed that the operation was carried out based on specific intelligence. The two accused were promptly taken into custody and brought to the police station for further interrogation.
According to police sources, the seized narcotics were intended to be transported to Mohanpur. The accused had reportedly arrived at Teliamura Railway Station via train with the intention of smuggling the brown sugar to the town.
The detained youths were identified by the police as Deepayan Ghosh and Agrijit Ghosh, both residents of Ghoshpara in Mohanpur. A case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and a detailed investigation is currently underway.
Police officials have reiterated their commitment to intensifying anti-drug operations in the region to curb the rising menace of narcotics.
