The seizure, which is estimated to be worth around Rs 4 crore in the illicit market, was made early Monday morning following a tip-off.

Speaking to the media, Churaibari Officer-In-Charge Khokan Saha said, “Acting on specific input, we detained a truck carrying electric transformers. On closer inspection, we noticed that the nuts of the transformers were loose, which raised our suspicion. A thorough search was conducted, and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer, North District Superintendent Police, and DCM were immediately informed and rushed to the spot.”

Upon opening the transformers, police found 96 packets of cannabis weighing approximately 960 kilograms hidden inside six of the ten loaded transformers.

Two persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure — the truck driver Ardesh Kumar (42) and his assistant Pramod Kumar (59), both residents of Uttar Pradesh. Preliminary interrogation revealed that the contraband was reportedly loaded from the Khayerpur area of Agartala and was destined for Guwahati.

A case has been registered against the duo, and they will be produced before the court with a plea for police remand for further investigation.
