The state food and civil supplies department minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Thursday chaired a crucial meeting his officers to ensure adequate stock and supply of food this coming monsoon and also to ensure that there is no abnormal price hike during the monsoon in the markets.
“The state Food and Public Distribution Department has taken proactive steps to ensure that the prices of essential commodities, including petroleum products and LPG cylinder supply, remain normal in the state during the monsoon season,” Chowdhury said.
He also said that the state Food Department has made efforts to ensure that the prices of essential commodities in the market do not increase more than normal in the event of disruption of traffic due to natural disasters during the monsoon season and to prevent black marketing of essential commodities.
In the meeting, the Food Minister said that the necessary repair work of the navigable bridge over the Barak River in Assam is underway. Therefore, goods-carrying vehicles are coming to the state through alternative routes, he added.
Presently there is adequate stock of daily necessities in the state, the minister said and instructed the Sub-Divisional Administrators, Food Department officials and various market organizations to be vigilant in this regard.
