The Tripura government is fully prepared to tackle the fresh COVID pandemic throughout the state with adequate medical supplies, oxygen plant, and all necessary medical equipments are adequately stocked, said ICA Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Sunday.
Addressing a press conference this evening, Chowdhury said that considering the overall situation in the state due to the increasing impact of Covid infection, it has been decided to enforce night curfew from 9 pm to 5 am from January 10 to January 20.
He said that as per the opinion of experts and doctors, the infection rate could increase rapidly during January and February. The ICA Minister however called upon the people to take precautionary measures against the infection with proper usage of masks and sanitizers and maintaining social distance.
Referring to the infrastructure and various measures taken by the state health department to deal with Covid, Chowdhury said that there are a total of 2562 beds in the state for covid treatment purposes, out of which 700 beds are kept ready to deal with the critically ill patients.
A total of 330 beds are existing in the west district and the number may be increased depending upon the situation, he said adding that there is no shortage of oxygen in the state as there are 22 oxygen plants in operation.
He said that in addition to this there is an ample supply of oxygen cylinders, concentrators, pulse oximeters, ventilators, and the number may be increased only when required. The ICA Minister said that the health infrastructure has been strengthened in the districts so that the patients can get treatment in the district level hospitals and lower down the pressure in Agartala hospital.
He said that according to the opinion and projection of the experts, the number of infected people in the state may exceed 32,000 and children may also be affected during this pandemic. Following this, a total of 216 beds are kept ready with ICU facility for the treatment of children.
Meanwhile, he said that schools and colleges will be closed except the those conducting examinations.
