Power Minister Ratanlal Nath on Tuesday inaugurated a mega blood donation camp organized by Power Engineers’ Association Tripura at the conference hall of PEAT, Bipani Bitan of Durga Chowmuhani here. AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder was also present in this event.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Nath reiterated that the state of Tripura in comparison to its population had bagged the first position in blood donation across the country in 2022-23 financial year.
Appealing people to donate more blood, Power minister said “Birth and death are not in our hands, but donating blood is in our hands. Donating blood helps in keeping our body fit and well. Chief Minister Prof Dr Manik Saha appealed to come forward in donating blood and accordingly, all are coming forward.”
Stressing further on the significance of blood, Nath said “Three persons’ lives can be saved with one unit of blood. This has become possible during the present government’s regime. Earlier, one unit of blood could save only one person.”
“The blood has been divided into three components- Red Blood Cells (RBCs) which can be stored for 42 days, Plasma for burn patients for 1 year and Platelets for Cancer patients to be stored for only five days. This had been possible with the efforts of eminent scientists present in our hospitals”, he added.
The minister also urged the AMC Mayor Majumder to start awarding a renowned personality who has donated blood for the highest numbers every year.
Speaking at the event, AMC Mayor Dipak Majumder said that the blood donations camps are now transformed into a festival as it is being organized through departments, organizations and even personally. There are 12 blood banks in the state affiliated by the state government.
