Tripura CM writes letter to 7 CMs; requests aid for stranded people

AGARTALA:

Combating coronavirus seems to have initiated new coordination between the state governments across the country. Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Saturday wrote to his counterparts in 7 other states to work out a coordinating mechanism between them to rescue and help migrant workers and other sections of people of the state who are caught in the lockdown.

Mr. Deb communicated to 7 other chief ministers of Assam, West Bengal, Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, and Tamil Nadu after he received information about a group of workers being caught in the states, who were helpless and stuck without any provisions for food or shelter and unable to return home.

The chief minister sought food, accommodation, security and health services to the people of Tripura stranded in the states following the 21 days lockdown.

"If any persons or group of people from the states of Tripura are stranded in any parts of your state, they may kindly be provided with food, accommodation, security and health service. The district collectors of your state may be informed accordingly," stated the letter to CMs.

Mr. Deb in his communication letter also stated, "The DMs in Tripura are directed to assist the persons in need who are stuck in Tripura due to the lockdown. The government will make all necessary expenditures for the same." He said that a high-level monitoring team has been constituted to tackle the situations.

"In view of the 21 days lockdown, a large number of people of Tripura are stranded in different states. They are under great stress and many of them are facing difficulties regarding the place of stay and food. It is also learned that some of them are facing short of money," Mr. Deb stated in his official letter to the CMs.

However, the Tripura government has constituted a three-member group headed by L H Darlong, principal secretary for transport; Apurba Roy, secretary P&C and R Gopal Rao, DIGP (crime) police headquarter to tackle the situation of stranded people.
