Sushanta directs timely stocking of pulses, rice in warehouses

Food, Civil Supply and Consumers Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Monday directed the officials to keep stock of pulses and rice in the warehouses of the food department before the specified time.

Today in the afternoon in the conference hall of the secretariat, Minister Chowdhury met with the District Magistrates and Sub-Divisional Magistrates of North and Unakoti districts in a video conference to know the latest quantity of rice and pulses stored in the warehouses of the Food Department in both the districts.

“Currently there is no shortage of rice. As our food department procures pulses from central government owned companies, 6000 metric tonnes of pulses will reach the state warehouses in next 15-20 days. After learning about the detailed information regarding the stock of various food items from the senior officials present in today's video conference, I instruct the officials of the food department to take necessary measures to keep stock in the warehouses of the food department before the specified time”, he said.

Among others present in this video conference were Social Welfare and Social Education Department Secretary Tapash Roy, Food, Civil Supply and Consumers Affairs Department Special Secretary Raval Hemendra Kumar, Social Welfare and Social Education Department Additional Secretary Smitha Moul, North District Magistrate Nagesh Kumar and others.

Later, the minister held a meeting with the NHIDCL on the widening of the national highway in Ranirabazar under the Majlishpur Assembly Constituency.

“National highways play an important role in economic and social development. The national highway is connected with the livelihood of the shopkeepers located on both sides of the national highway. Assam-Agartala road widening work is going to start very soon at Ranirabazar under my Majlishpur Assembly Constituency”, he said.

“Today I had an important meeting with the officials of the construction company NHIDCL to prioritize the expansion of the road without damaging the existing infrastructure as much as possible, keeping in mind the interests of various businesses and small traders located on both sides of the road before this work starts. Officials present in the meeting were requested to emphasize that the road can be widened as per the detailed project report without causing as little damage as possible to the shops located on both sides of the road”, the minister said.

Today's meeting was attended by, West District Magistrate Debapriya Bardhan, Jirania Sub-Divisional Magistrate Shanti Ranjan Chakma, DCM Kumardip Sarkar, NHIDCL General Manager Rajender Kumar Tindwal and others.
