The state government is contemplating to set up 7 new degree colleges in PPP model in an attempt to put impetus on the higher education system of the state, Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said today.
Speaking at a workshop organized by the state higher education department, he said, the state already has 22 degree colleges at different parts of the state. The number of total students stands at 44,357. The number of faculty members as per official data is 724. When it comes to technical institutes, the minister said, there 3,640 students studying in 6 technical colleges. And, the state government is trying to modernize the higher education system also keeping the national level competition in mind, the Education Minister said.
Earlier, he said, only 7 to 8 collages were categorized under NAAC (National Assessment and Accreditation Council) but now the number went up to 21. This has shown everyone as to how the state colleges are doing and UGC has also started granting funds for these colleges. He also stressed on the matter as to how the state colleges could be enlisted with the NIRF (National Institute of Ranking Framework).
Among the others, Vice Chairman Tripura Secretary Higher Education Soumya Gupta, Vice Chairman Tripura Higher Education Council Arunoday Saha and other higher officials also remained present on the occasion.
