Police's concerted action and wise trap laid by the locals led to arrest of a fake currency kingpin at Bishalgarh's Lal Singh Mura panchayat located under Sepahijala district of Tripura on Wednesday.
The accused identified as Shipon Roy reported to have crossed the border from Bangladesh and chosen Lal Singh Mura as his new area of operation.
Police recovered huge quantity of fake denominations, equipment—ink, printers etc. from his rented house. Shipon used to operate from there and with the help of his accomplices spread fake currency in the markets.
The incident attracted the notice of the locals, when the fake notes had spread in the local markets and it had become a daily affair. For shop owners it had come as a menace. Every day, there was a case of fake note being reported. It was when people started suspecting Shipon behind the whole nexus as he used to invite unknown people to his residence quite frequently. Most of them unknown to the locals, used to carry packets which apparently resembled wads of cash. People did not take any attempt to get Shipon arrested as he was residing at the residence of Shilpi Majumder, a local influential CPIM leader.
Any such attempts, people felt, might have incited political tension in the region. However, in order to avert any unprecedented turn around, the locals decided to catch him red handed.
On Wednesday, the locals bagged success in proving Shipon's guilt after he had been found using fake currency while purchasing food from a local eatery. Soon locals trapped him and police was informed.
The police succeeded to seize all the equipment from his residence and also arrested his wife. Both Shipon and his wife were Bangladeshi nationals and possess documents proving their citizenship. The couples were staying in Lal Singh Mura since one and a half year. An inquiry had been initiated to trace all his associates still roaming free.
