Over 500-year-old temple in Tripura performs 'Kali Puja' on Diwali amid COVID pandemic

The Tripura along with the rest of the Nation celebrated the festival of lights - Diwali amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and family performed 'Mangal Aarti' on the bank of Kalyan Sagar of the states over 500-year-old Tripura Sundari Temple at Udaipur in Gomati district.

With the rituals of this 'Mangal Aarti' the Kali Puja of Diwali festival kicked off in the temple with a restricted number of foot-fall of devotees. 

Every year, thousands of people started to gather at the temple in the morning but this year, the public movement has been restricted due to the pandemic.

Meanwhile to facilitate the people of this state who usually gather at the temple on the eve of Diwali, the Kali Puja rituals in the temple is aired in TV Channels.  Besides, two giant size LED screens are installed at Ramesh Chowmuhani and Jamtala enabling the devotees to witness puja and prayers.

However, as part of precautionary measures and security surveillance watch towers and CCTV cameras are also installed in the temple premise to restrict untoward incidents.  

The temple, which is over 500 years old, one of the 51 Shakti Peethas of Hindus. The temple was constructed by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 1501.

Tripura Sundari Temple is a Hindu temple of Goddess Tripura Sundari, locally known as Devi Tripureshwari.
