The National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out searches at multiple locations associated with suspects linked to CPI (Maoist) in Chhattisgarh on Monday, in connection with the murder case of political leader Birju Ram Taram.
The NIA teams extensively searched six locations in the Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district of Chhattisgarh, which borders Maharashtra.
During the searches, they seized mobile phones, laptops, printers, hard disks, memory cards, pen drives, and other incriminating materials/documents from the suspects' premises.
The operation targeted residential premises of sympathisers and over-ground workers (OGWs) of the proscribed terrorist organisation, as part of NIA's investigation in case RC-16/2024/NIA/RPR.
These sympathisers/OGWs were suspected of harbouring, sheltering, and providing logistical assistance to armed cadres of CPI (Maoist) involved in the brutal killing of Birju Taram.
The BJP leader was shot dead with an INSAS rifle in October 2023. The NIA took over the case on March 8, 2024. Since then, the agency has been cracking down on the CPI (Maoist) terror network nationwide.
