Mizoram Brus rules out government’s decision of settling them in Kanchanpur

AGARTALA:

The Brus of Mizoram on Tuesday ruled out the Tripura government and Union Home Ministry’s decision of settling them in Kanchanpur Sub-division of North Tripura district and decided to go for a dawn-to-dusk strike on February 26.

Jampui Mizo Convention leader on Tuesday while announcing their decision has said, “Despite our several persuasions, the Union Home Ministry and the Tripura government has disagreed with us decided to settle the Mizoram Brus in Kanchanour sub-division.”

“We wanted the Brus to be settled outside the Kanchanpur sub-division for the welfare of the people of all walks of life in the society there,” adding to this the leader said, “But the government has decided to settle hem in three different locations in the sub-division which also includes adjacent to the Jampui hill which perhaps touches our traditional jhum cultivation.”

He, however, said, “We have decided to go for a strike from morning 06:00 AM till evening 06:00 PM to press for our three points charter demands including that of settling the Brus outside the Kanchanpur sub-division.”
