Minister Ratan Nath assures timely distribution of seeds

AGARTALA:

Reaffirming the state government's commitment to farmers, Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Nath emphasized that soil testing is essential for better yield and sustainable agriculture.

He added that the government is offering this service free of cost to all farmers.

“The government stands firmly with the farmers—not only in agriculture but also in fisheries, poultry, floriculture and horticulture,” he said while addressing the Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan held at Phultali village under the Kamalasagar assembly constituency in Sepahijala district.

As the flagship campaign entered its eighth day, the event witnessed the presence of agricultural scientists, officials from the Agriculture, Fisheries, and Animal Resources Development Departments, and a large gathering of local farmers.

Minister Nath actively participated in an open dialogue with farmers and departmental experts, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in building a developed agricultural ecosystem.

During the programme, the minister directed officials to ensure the timely distribution of government-provided seeds and to resolve any logistical challenges promptly so that farmers do not face difficulties during the cultivation season.

Highlighting the positive outcomes of government initiatives, Nath pointed out that many well-educated youths are now engaging in agriculture and earning lakhs of rupees, inspired by the support provided by the state.

"This shows that agriculture is no longer just a tradition—it is becoming a profitable and sustainable profession," he added.

In a personal gesture of support, Minister Nath assured the delivery of a power tiller to Amiya Bala Das, a local farmer.

Drawing an emotional parallel between the dedication of farmers and that of the armed forces, the minister said, “Farmers and jawans never go on strike. One gives us food, the other protects our borders—they are above all of us. I urge farmers not to leave their land fallow. Use it. Grow on it. The government is here to support you in every way possible.”

He further emphasized that the state government is extending financial assistance across various sectors of agriculture, including floriculture and horticulture, to ensure that no farmer is left behind.
