In a shocking turn of events, residents of Madhab Para in Harbang ADC Village, under Mandwi Block, have raised serious allegations of financial irregularities and fraud in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission's Har Ghar Jal. The mission, aimed at providing water to every household, is now under scrutiny as locals claim that the promised benefits have not materialized.
According to complaints filed by the residents, the state government's Jal Jeevan Mission was supposed to complete the installation of five water pumps in the area by June 30, 2022, at a reported cost of Rs 42 lakh. However, the locals contend that only three water pumps have been installed, leaving the community with an acute water shortage.
The situation worsened when it was revealed that the existing pump houses, instead of being replaced with new facilities as promised, were merely refurbished. Allegations suggest that no new infrastructure was developed, and the pumps were transferred from the old pump houses, resulting in a lack of improvement in the water supply.
Around 100 families residing in the affected area have been grappling with water scarcity for an extended period, despite the assurances of the Jal Jeevan Mission. The promised solution to their water woes has not materialized, leading to frustration and discontent among the local population.
Protests erupted in Madhab Para as residents expressed their grievances, demanding immediate action from the concerned department and the state government. The protestors insist on a transparent investigation into the alleged financial scam and the actual utilization of funds allocated for the Jal Jeevan Mission in their area.
The community emphasizes that the water crisis persists, and the mission, which was anticipated to bring relief, has failed to deliver on its objectives. Calls for accountability and corrective measures are growing, with locals urging the state government to address their water-related concerns promptly.
