About 300 labourers are suffering from miserable condition after closure of Hiracherra Tea Garden which is one of the oldest gardens of the state at Kailashahar subdivision.
One chit fund company named Sun Shine purchased the tea garden before eight years. But the garden closed all productive activities after two years of buying the garden. As a result all labourers became unemployed. Now they are earning their livelihood by working as day labourer in the town.
Hiracherra Tea Garden is situated 7 Km away from Kailashahar town. About 500 labourers were engaged in the garden when it was under private ownership. The excellent quality of tea leaf was one of the features of the garden. The chit fund owners of Sun Shine Company fled away before 6 years leaving the garden.
Later the labourers continued their earning for two years by selling the tea leaves. Afterwards, the tea plants were destroyed by jungles and bushes. The labourers were benefited by MNREGA works during the period of Left Front.
Now the labourers decided to meet Chief Minister to occupy the garden. They are hopeful to restart the garden. So they are expecting to get back the days of collecting tea leaves again.
Although, manager and other official staffs have not left the garden inspite of the adverse situation. At present Hiracherra, Debasthal, Sonamukhi and Sarojani tea gardens have been closed after intervention of chit fund.
