Infiltration declines says CM, urged centre to repair border fencing

AGARTALA:

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha today said that incidents of infiltration along the India-Bangladesh border in the state have declined significantly, attributing the development to heightened surveillance and prompt action by security forces.

Addressing the media, Dr. Saha, who also holds the Home portfolio, urged the central government to expedite the repair of damaged barbed wire fencing and complete fencing in remaining unfenced stretches of the international border.

“Tripura shares an 856-kilometre-long border with Bangladesh. While some portions are fenced, there are areas where fencing is damaged or entirely missing. I have raised this issue with the central leadership during the second plenary session and through other platforms. They have assured me that the matter will be looked into,” he said.

Dr. Saha further stated that the state government, in coordination with the Border Security Force (BSF) and other security agencies, is maintaining strict vigil in border areas.

“Security forces are actively detaining illegal infiltrators and deportation is being carried out as per legal procedures. Due to this enhanced vigilance, attempts of infiltration have reduced,” the Chief Minister added.
