A case study based on water-logging and flood control in Agartala city, prepared by Health Secretary of Tripura Government Kiran Gitte, IAS, recently won first prize at a training camp conducted by the Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration (LBSNAA) in Mussoorie.
As per press release of Tripura Government, this case study is based on the Agartala Flood Mitigation Project. The training camp, held from June 18 to July 13, included 83 IAS officers from 23 cadre states.
"IAS officers participating in the training camp are asked to submit one case study each. Participating Health Secretary Kiran Gitte from Tripura submitted a case study on drainage and flood control of Agartala city based on his work experience as Secretary of the Urban Development Department and Chairman of the Agartala Smart City Project during 2019-20," said the press release.
The Agartala Flood Mitigation Project includes initiatives such as the installation of sewerage pumps, diesel-powered pumps, underground pipelines and power supply, mechanical drain cleaning, construction of new drains and Swiss gates, and round-the-clock monitoring of the flood situation under an integrated command system. As a result, the time for water accumulation has been reduced from 2-3 days to less than 1 hour during heavy rainfall of up to 150 mm.
