In a move aimed at strengthening agricultural marketing infrastructure and improving farmers' access to better trading facilities, Tripura Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath on Sunday inaugurated the newly developed Betchara Primary Rural Market in Sepahijala district.
The new market has been established to provide local farmers with a well-equipped platform to sell their agricultural produce, reduce dependence on middlemen, and improve price realization. The initiative is part of the state government's ongoing efforts to modernize rural markets and enhance agricultural infrastructure across Tripura.
Addressing the inaugural programme, the minister said agriculture remains the backbone of Tripura's rural economy and stressed that the government is committed to creating better marketing opportunities for cultivators. He noted that strengthening rural markets is essential for increasing farmers' income and ensuring sustainable agricultural development.
Nath highlighted that the state has significantly expanded and upgraded agricultural markets over the past several years through investments in modern infrastructure, storage facilities and improved market connectivity. These initiatives, he said, are intended to make agricultural trade more efficient while supporting the economic well-being of farming communities.
The minister also interacted with local farmers during the event and assured them that the government would continue implementing programmes focused on rural infrastructure, agricultural productivity and market access. He urged cultivators to take full advantage of the improved facilities and government support schemes to enhance farm production and income.
Several public representatives, officials of the Agriculture Department, local panchayat leaders and farmers were present at the inauguration ceremony.
