If you want to study in the school, you have to pull water from the well for mid-day meal” that is the way students are being treated at Dhanbilash Para RPC JB school located under Chandipur Block of Kailashahar. Though there has been sharp resentment among the parents of the students studying here regarding the issue, students are, literally, forced to work like labourers.
When this reporter reached to the locals, it is learned that there were 35 students altogether studying in the school with a teaching strength of 4 and a class 4 employee. Most of the teachers remain, absent in the working days as whoever attends the school discharge duties of all of them. Since the past few years, the situation is similar there.
Several times, the locals tried to convey their message to the teachers, but failed to change the situation. Two of the teachers identified as Subhendu Chakma and Uttam Dey reportedly did not attend school for a single day in last six months. Irregularities reported here also lead to delayed school proceedings and class work.
When the villagers approached the class 4 employee they were scolded by him and threatened of dire consequences of the students. Speaking to this website, one of the school teachers Hari Nam Debbarma said, the villagers approached the school, local public representatives and all but no improvement has been seen. All the allegations raised against the teachers are not wrong but worth pondering for the department, he added.
These malpractices running in schools assume significance if comparison drawn with the goal of the present government. The villagers questioned as to how quality education would be provided when the teachers were not in the mood of running schools.
