After 128 days, Tripura Police finally arrested the Ex-chief secretary of Tripura YP Singh, a prime accused in the Rs 600 crore PWD scam. Singh had been arrested from Gaziabad of Uttar Pradesh this morning, said sources in the police department.
According to a highly placed source in the police department, after repeated attempts Singh remained elusive and could not be traced. Search operations had been also conducted in his residence in New Delhi.
“A team of Tripura Police was in Delhi for a long time in search of him. As he could not be tracked the team came back and once again launched an operation to track him. Finally, he got arrested this morning at Gaziabad where he was in hiding”, an official said in the condition of anonymity.
Sources also added that he would be brought back to the state after the initial paperwork with UP police ends. “He is expected to get produced before a local Court in UP. As the operation had been carried out in collaboration with Tripura police it is necessary to possess an arrest warrant issued by the local court. After, the court hands over his charge he will be brought here in the state”, the source said.
Notably, Singh had been booked in a Rs 600 crore PWD scam reportedly took place while he was serving as the Chief Secretary of the state during the previous left regime.
Former PWD Minister Badal Chowdhury and ex-Chief Engineer Sunil Bhowmik were also facing the same charges who had been bailed out after being police custody for nearly 90 days.
Sources in the police also said that it failed to file the charge-sheet because YP Singh could not be arrested on time which hampered the investigation to get completed.
