To mark the 70th Independence Day, Cross Country Race tournament held today in between huge enthusiasm among the participants. With the joint initiative of Tripura Sports Council and West District Sports Department and in cooperation with Tripura Athletics association, the tournament started today in front of Umakanta Mini stadium.
The race was consisted of 5 km in the Boy’s section while in the Girl’s section the race was held for 3 km. In both the sections Tripura Sports School athletes displayed dominance and snatched the top slot with ease. In the Boy’s section Uttam Koloi of Tripura Sports School grabbed the first position while in the Girl’s section Priyanka Sharma of the same school secured the top position.
In the Boy’s section the race has been inaugurated by Additional Director of Sports Department Mrinal Kanti Das and Secretary of Tripura Athletics association Biplab Datta while in the Girl’s section the tournament was inaugurated by Arjun Awardee Gymnast Mantu Debnath. Total 60 athletes took part in this tournament as top ten in each category have been awarded with cash prizes.
In the Boy’s section Uttam Koloi of Tripura Sports School, Ikram Mia of Bhagat Singh Play centre, Pabindra Das of Teliamura, Dilwar Hussein of Bhagat Singh Play centre, Sakil Khan of Sekerkot, Ibrahim Mia, Bishal Das of Bhagat Singh Play centre, Loknath Majumder of Ranirbazar Play centre and Rajib Nag of AD Nagar Play centre grabbed the top ten places respectively.
In the Girl’s category Priyanka Sharma of Sports school, Hadiza Begam of Bhagat Singh PC, Sushmita Sarkar of Sonamura, Antara Nama of Bhagat Singh PC, Puja Sarkar of Sonamura, Mamata Begam, Ruma Akhter of Bhagat Singh PC, Sagarika Sarkar of AD Nagar, Parbati Sarkar of Sekerkot and Isha Nama of AD Nagar grabbed the top ten places respectively.
Top three place holders in both Boy’s and Girl’s category have been awarded with cash prize of Rs 600, Rs 400 and Rs 300 respectively while from fourth to tenth place holders in both the categories have been awarded with cash prize of Rs 100 each. The organizers thanked each and everyone who was a part of this race and also hoped to continue such kind of events in near future.
