The Leader of Opposition and CPI(M) state secretary Jitendra Choudhury on Thursday discovered a scathing attack on the ruling BJP government in Tripura and alleged that since the formation of government, the BJP has been throttling the democratic rights of the people of this state.
He made this allegation while leading a nomination filing rally, where the party candidates accompanied the party cadres and workers submitted their nomination paper with the Returning officer Dr Vishal Kumar for the panchayat elections, scheduled to be held on August 8 next.
Addressing the rally, the party leader Jitendra Choudhury alleged that for the past six years, the villagers of this state were mostly targeted and they were deprived at large.
He continued talking tough against the BJP in Tripura and further alleged that in addition to the throttling of democratic rights of the people, the BJP has turned almost all the elections into farce during the past six years of their tenure. In this situation the panchayat election is scheduled to be held on August 8, where there is no rule of law, he added.
He said that in these circumstances, the three-tier elections are going to take place, and the party has repeatedly urged the SEC to take steps in conducting the elections.
“But the state government and SEC have failed to give any assurances. Eighty per cent of the population lives in villages, and the economy also depends on villages. These elections are very important for this state,” he said.
