COVID surge: Tripura Govt. extends night curfew

In view of the surging cases of the deadly Coronavirus across the state, the Tripura government has decided to extend the ongoing night curfew from January 20, 8 PM onwards which is currently being imposed from 9 PM.

The state Information and Cultural Affair minister Sushanta Chowdhury on Tuesday briefed the cabinet decisions and said that in last seven days, a total of 6,491 persons were found to be infected and among them, 6,159 are in home isolation while 14 persons succumbed. "Yesterday’s positivity rate of COVID-19 was 23.15 percent in Agartala Municipal Corporation area while the rate is 10.72 percent in the entire state," he added.

He said that all the religious ceremonies including kirtans should be completed by January 23.

Speaking at a press conference, the Information and Culture Minister said, "It has been decided in the state cabinet today that multiplexes, shopping malls, cinema halls, parks, picnic spots etc. will be completely closed considering the Corona situation in the state."

In case of government establishments within Agartala Municipal Corporation area, the minister said, “The offices will run with 50 percent strength in all offices within the capital city while higher officials starting from Joint Secretary ranks will have to visit offices”.

Meanwhile, Chowdhury said that a special covid vaccination campaign has been launched in a total of 734 schools in each district of the state for a three-day period from January 19 to January 21.
