Counting for 17th LS Poll begins in Tripura amidst tight security

AGARTALA:

Counting for the 17th Lok Sabha Poll has began in the Northeastern states of Tripura amidst tight security along with rest of the nation. The counting has began from 8 AM for West and East parliamentary constituency here at Agartala Umakanta School and other parts of the state.

The ruling BJP party and other opposition parties have hipped to sweep this election with majority votes. "Despite the fact that Tripura has failed to conduct free and fare poll, I hope that the CPI-M shall sweep this poll in both the seat," said CPI-M West Tripura candidate Sankar Prasad First this morning, while the counting is underway.

Meantime the congress candidate Subal Bhowmik reiterated of poll irregularities and hoped to sweep this poll defeating the BJP party.

The Tripura West Lok Sabha seat went to polls in the first phase on April 11. Re-polling in 168 out of the 1,679 polling stations was conducted on May 12 in the sixth phase of the 2019 general elections after reports of violence surfaced. The re-polling saw a voter turnout of an estimated 72.32 per cent with 1,41,251 registered voters.

A tight contest is expected among the key parties in the state in this year’s election given that the BJP secured a majority and formed the Tripura state government in 2018 with the help of its ally IPTF. However, the IPTF has chosen to not uphold the alliance in the Lok Sabha.
