CM inaugurates traditional Ratha Yatra Fest at Melagarh

AGARTALA:

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha inaugurated the traditional Ratha Yatra festival at Melagarh in the Sepahijala district of the state on Thursday and urged the people to remember the history, culture, and tradition for better living.

He said that the government is putting utmost effort and working to preserve the historical tradition and culture of this state.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated the 9-day long cultural festival at Melagarh Jagannath Temple and hoped for larger participation of people of all walks of life in the festival this year.

Enthusiasm ran high among the devotees and small time vendors as Melagarh geared up to host its famous Rath Yatra Festival – the biggest of its kind in the North Eastern region – after the Covid pandemic.

The Chief Minister visited the Jagannath Temple and inspected the temple under construction and exchanged views with the locals.

This year Melagarh is hosting the 59th edition of the Rath Yatra. After a rather dull celebration for two successive years owing to the Corona pandemic, this year preparations are in full swing for a mega celebration. Like previous years, the height of the Rath will be 58 ft and the width is 22 ft.
