CM Dr. Manik Saha stresses on more awareness to curtail cancer surge

AGARTALA:

Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha has inaugurated the two-day long 17th NE-AROICON organized by Radiation Oncologists of Tripura with the theme "healthy lifestyle prevent cancer" at Saheed Bhagat Singh Yuva Awas in Agartala recently.

Addressing the delegates from Northeast region during the opening ceremony of the event, Dr. Saha said that the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Centre, Agartala has been doing well and a good number of patients from Bangladesh & North-East states are visiting the centre for their treatment.

“Although it is an incurable disease, cancer can be cured if diagnosed correctly and treated on time. That is why awareness is one of the ways to deal with cancer,” he said.

He said, “Government is trying to improve the health services of the state. Currently, the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Regional Cancer Center is playing a vital role in the treatment of cancer diseases in the state. The state government has taken efforts to improve the services and infrastructure of this hospital.”

The Chief Minister stressed on more public awareness about the causes of cancer and its prevention.

American prelate Robert Prevost elected New Pope

The Chicago-born Prevost, 69, a member of the Augustinian order and who had served extensively in Peru, was Prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops and President of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America since 2023. He was appointed to the posts by Pope Francis, who elevated him as a Cardinal.
