Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Sunday expressed his concern over the drug menace in the state of Tripura and sought the intervention of the NSS volunteers of the state to end the menace.
“The NSS volunteers can play a significant role in ending drug menace in the state,” Dr. Saha said, adding that there is a need of strict vigilance on drug addiction in educational institutions and in every nook and corners of the state.
Addressing the NSS volunteers in a function here at Agartala on Sunday Dr. Saha said, “The NSS volunteers need to keep a close eye on the students in the respective schools if they are involved with drug addiction and identify them accordingly, so that the teachers and the school authorities can take action against those.”
“Government is contemplating to end drug menace in the state and the NSS volunteers along with others need to cooperate with the government,” he said to add that at present there are at least 400 NSS units across the state having a significant number of 34000 volunteers.
He said, “It is very concerning that an adequate number of drug items are still being smuggled in the state from the neighboring Myanmar and other places, while a larger section of youths of the state are being involved in drug addiction, which perhaps are running their health and career.”
The Chief Minister Dr. Saha however called for a collective effort in ending drug menace in the state.
