As tensions escalate sharply following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack on April last, the Tripura government in accordance with the direction of Union Home Ministry will hold a comprehensive civil defence mock drill in the eight districts of the state on May 7.
Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, the state revenue secretary Brijesh Pandey said that the District Disaster Management Authorities and District Civil Defence Corps would coordinate the drill with active participation from various emergency and disaster response stakeholders.
He said that the mock drill is aimed to assess the preparedness, efficacy and coordination among civil defence units and allied agencies in responding to hostile attacks and emergencies.
The mock drill will include testing the alert system, evacuation procedures, public safety measures and inter-agency coordination, he told reporters.
On the other hand, the District Magistrate of the West Tripura district Dr Vishal Kumar said that the exercise in West Tripura district will be held at Umakant Maidan in Agartala. The exercise will start from 3.30 pm and will continue till 6 pm. Sirens will be sounded at 4pm and 5.30pm, he added.
Civil defence volunteers, Apdamitra, NCC cadets, TSR jawans, home guards, firemen, medical teams, will participate in the exercise, he said, adding that the fire station at IGM Hospital, GB Hospital and Fire Brigade Chowmuhni will be utilized in the exercise.
