In the second session, Dr. Kanak Choudhury, Deputy MS of GBP Hospital and Medical College, spoke about POSHAN a flagship initiative by the Government of India (GoI) aimed at comprehensively addressing malnutrition. September is designated as Rashtriya Poshan Maah or Nutrition Month as part of the Government’s national flagship program, POSHAN Abhiyaan, also known as the National Nutrition Mission.
The program was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018 with the objective of reducing under nutrition levels among children below six years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers in the country.
This year, POSHAN Maah is being celebrated under the theme "Suposhit Bharat, Sakshar Bharat, Sashakt Bharat" (Well-Nourished, Well-Read, and Empowered India), focusing primarily on key stages of the human life cycle—pregnancy, infancy, childhood, and adolescence. Dr. Choudhury emphasized how local dietary habits and the consumption of fruits can significantly contribute to achieving a well-nourished, well-read, and empowered India.
As part of the event, a Meri Maati Mera Desh Amrit Kalash Yatra was organized at the exhibition venue, attracting around 500 participants. The two-day exhibition will conclude tomorrow.
