The Border Security Force (BSF) Tuesday recovered a huge cache of packets containing brown sugar worth over Rs. 1 crore from Silchar-Agartala passenger train at Kumarghat. The suspect, however, managed to slip away taking advantage of the crowd of passengers, BSF said.
According to the press communique of the BSF, a special operation on Tuesday afternoon was launched based on intelligence inputs and the team carried out a search in coach D-4 of train No 15664 going from Silchar in Assam to Agartala in Tripura.
During the search, the team found 221.96 grams of brown sugar concealed in a white plastic bag that was abandoned by the suspect. ““The estimated value of seized brown sugar is approximately Rs 1.11 crore in the international market,” the BSF said.
The statement said, the BSF Tripura is committed to concerted efforts to eradicate the drug menace to thwarting the attempts being made by trans-border criminals/smugglers by taking all possible proactive measures and is frequently confiscating huge quantities of contraband giving big jolts to trans-border smugglers, particularly Narcotics/drug traffickers during 'Anti-Smuggling Drives' in the Tripura State.
