A group of about 25 to 30 BJP workers allegedly threatened to discontinue the meeting of CPI-M at Dhalai District Office of the party when the meeting was being presided over by MP of East Tripura and Central Committee leader of CPI-M Jitendra Choudhury today.
Sources said that Choudhury was reviewing the present situation of different organs of the party, attack of ruling party on opposition and different matters at about 10 a.m.
Meanwhile a group of about 25 to 30 BJP workers went to first floor of the CPI-M office at 11 a.m. and raised question why CPI-M was conducting meeting in the illegal building. They opined that any meeting at such building was illegal. They threatened to stop the meeting and get out the leader from the building.
Meanwhile a large contingent of police led by SDPO of Ambassa Asish Dasgupta arrived there and shifted the leaders and workers of ruling party after discussion.
Later the BJP leaders and workers attempted to come to CPI-M office again. Observing their attitude SDPO again counseled them and shifted from that place. In the meantime SDM J.B. Doati arrived there. The leaders and workers of BJP wanted to know why the CPI-M party office has not been demolished. Doati said, the matter is under sub-judice of court and she would not be able do anything without order of court. In spite of that ruling party leaders and workers raised slogan to demolish and lock the office so that they could not any meeting at the office. They also said that CPM should take permission from ruling party to conduct any meeting at the office. They also demanded to arrest Anjan Das and Raja Majumder who were present at the meeting and were involved in attacking BJP before election.
However SDM, SDPO and OC of Ambassa Police Station Himadri Sarkar helped to cool down the BJP leaders and workers and returned them from the office. Later BJP leader Nantu Saha repeated the same allegation against CPI-M and demanded to stop meeting of CPI-M and to get out the leaders from the office.
Later at a press conference MP Jitendra Choudhury said, the peace of entire state is being disturbed after getting power of the new government. No democracy is prevailing in the state. The disturbance by leaders and workers of other political party during meeting of a party is quite unexpected.
He said, I have informed the matter to CM and DM. Chief Minister said that he would look into the matter. On being informed about the matter District Police is maintaining communication with DGP and IG.
Choudhury further added, a section of leaders and workers of ruling party is attacking and beating our leaders and workers which in turn disturbs peace of the state. He raised question what message would go to people of the state by the incident of disturbance of leaders and workers during our meeting.
Referring CPI-M is a disciplined and recognized party and the meeting continued in disciplined manner he said, we never expect such behaviour.
He also thanked Chief Minister for his intervention in the matter. Condemning the incident he requested the other political party leaders and workers shun such attitude.
In a separate statement CPI-M Tripura State Secretariat strongly condemned the incident and demanded to allow to open party offices situated on own land and to ensure the right to express independent opinion and security of leaders and workers.
