The by-elections for Badarghat parliamentary constituency is scheduled on Monday and as many as 57906 voters of the constituency are eligible to exercise their franchise on the day.
The constituency, which is the biggest constituency of the city voters wise, recorded a 0.29% decrease in the number of voters as the number decreased to 57,906 from 58,073 during the Lok Sabha elections held last year.
However, the number of male voters stood at 29,398 whereas the number of female voters was recorded 28,508 as per the election commission press release.
The number of in-service voters was counted 242 among which 236 were male and 6 were female voters.
The polling in altogether 71 newly set up polling stations will be started from 7 am on Monday (23/09/2019).
After the polls the EVMs and VVPATs will be brought back to the strong room set up at Umakanta Academy School. The entire poll process will be videographed by sufficient number of videographers.
Section 144 of CrPc has been imposed in the locality with multi-layer security deployment including CAPF, TSR, BSF and local police.
Apart from this, all the major political parties have nominated their candidates in the elections. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party nominated one local school teacher Mimi Majumder. The Congress went up with party loyalist Ratan Das. CPIM’s Bulti Biswas, a known face of the party was pitted in the elections.
