Chief Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha today said that the Panchayat Department of the state is working towards realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat through the upliftment of rural India.
“Tripura has already set an example in the country in terms of empowering the three-tier Panchayat system, and it is evident from its excellence in various parameters and by winning seven National Panchayat Awards in the previous year. As per the Panchayat Devolution Index report published by the Central Government, Tripura is in 7th position among the top 10 states — we were in 13th position in 2015. It proves how we are working,” said Dr. Saha.
Dr. Saha said this while addressing an event on the observance of National Panchayat Day, today at Gram Swaraj Bhawan in A.D. Nagar, Agartala.
In the presence of Dr. Saha, an MoU was also signed with IIM Shillong for advanced training of Panchayat officials.
“Today, I also inaugurated a new smart office and VC office an declared all Panchayats in the state as disability-friendly, and unveiled the monthly newsletter Gram Srijan and the annual report of the Panchayat Department. Action is better than words. Prime Minister Narendra Modi always stressed that without developing villages, development of the country or state is not possible. To strengthen the Panchayat system, last year we distributed offer letters to Panchayat executives,” he said.
Dr. Saha said that those who were awarded today will be more inspired to carry out further developmental works and will also inspire others.
“PM Modi always says that we have to look after villages, and their development is our first priority. We must work properly, and this is our first preference. I want to request the officials and MLAs that since the majority of the area is rural, we must focus on it for overall development. We had not seen proper Panchayati Raj before, but after 2014, when Narendra Modi became Prime Minister, the real development of Panchayati Raj started and many steps have been taken. We should be proud of it, as we are receiving many awards,” he said.
Dr. Saha also stated that the MoU inked with IIM Shillong will focus on leadership and management projects, and leadership will be developed accordingly.
