The 73rd edition of the B N Mullick Memorial All India Police Football Championship (Men and Women) is set to kick off in Tripura on February 24. The 12-day tournament will conclude on March 7.
A preparatory meeting was recently held at the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Yuva Awas meeting hall, chaired by Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Tinku Roy, to ensure the seamless organization of the championship. The meeting witnessed the presence of senior police officials, sports administrators, and other key stakeholders.
During the meeting, Minister Roy assured that the Youth Affairs and Sports Department would extend full support to ensure the event’s success. He also urged other departments, including the Information and Cultural Department, Tripura Football Association, and Tripura Sports Council, to collaborate effectively. He emphasized the importance of making proper arrangements for accommodation and food for the visiting teams while stressing the need for extensive publicity to draw sports enthusiasts across the state.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Prabir Majumdar informed that a total of 43 teams, comprising contingents from BSF, CRPF, RPF, and CISF, will participate in the championship. Among these, 34 teams will compete in the men's category, while nine teams will take part in the women’s category. The teams are expected to start arriving in Tripura from February 21.
The championship matches will be played at five venues across the state, including Umakanta Stadium, Tulabagan Stadium in Mohanpur, Sachindra Colony Ground in Jiraniya, Jampuijala Ground, and Chandrapur Ground in Udaipur.
The preparatory meeting was attended by Additional Director General of Police (Training) M. Raja Murugan, Secretary of the Sports and Youth Affairs Department Dr. Pradeep Kumar Chakraborty, DIG (Crime) Krishnendu Chakraborty, along with representatives from the Sports Department, Tripura Football Association, and Tripura Sports Council. Discussions focused on ensuring all necessary arrangements for the smooth execution of the championship.
The All India Police Football Championship is an annual sporting event that provides police personnel from across the country with a platform to exhibit their football skills and foster camaraderie.
