In the past 24 hours, 15 Bangladeshi nationals, including seven transgender individuals, were detained in two separate locations in Tripura. Tripura shares an 856 km international border with Bangladesh.
A Tripura Police official reported that during a routine vehicle check at Panisagar in the North District, seven individuals were detained on suspicion. "We were inspecting a bus at the Panisagar Naka Point when we detained these individuals. Upon interrogation, they admitted to being Bangladeshi nationals. We also confiscated fake Aadhaar and PAN cards they had created. They were traveling to Mumbai via Guwahati," said the police. The detained transgender individuals were identified as being from Akhaura, Bangladesh and had crossed the border with the help of a smuggler.
Additionally, Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of the Government Railway Police, stated, "Yesterday, we detained eight Bangladeshi nationals along with two Indian accomplices at the Agartala Railway Station. The Bangladeshi nationals were heading to Kolkata and Chennai with the assistance of these two Indian accomplices. They have been presented before the court and we are seeking a police remand."
The detained individuals were identified as Sahadad Hossein, Trisha Akhtar, Safla Akhtar, Raju Ahmed, Shah Alam, Sukadri Sheikh, Md Biplab and Karim Sheikh. The Indian accomplices were identified as Ratan Pal and Shukla Sarkar, both residents of Sonamura in the Sepahijala district.
