At least 25 students were injured in a clash between ABVP and NSUI at Ramkrishna College of Kailashahar today.
The clash began when some outsiders wearing college dress entered at the premises of the college. While the ABVP and NSUI students took on each other the SFI members remained silent spectators all through the incident.
Some eyewitnesses said that the outsiders entered in the college with lathi and sharp weapons. As ABVP activists raised objection the clash broke out among both the groups and 25 students belonging both the groups sustained injuries. Among them 10 students were shifted to Unakoti District Hospital. Meanwhile a large contingent of police and TSR led by ASP Biplab Deb arrived there and controlled the situation.
Earlier, students of different political groups got engaged in scuffle and clash in the college during last six months but the college authority did not take any strong action against the violent students.
Sources said that Principal of the college Debabrata Goswami was on leave today.
“The situation could have been more serious if police did not arrive at the spot in time”, said a teacher.
Meanwhile the guardians expressed strong resentment at the reported entry of outsiders in the college premise with sharp weapons.
