Amid a verbal spat with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma over the triple murder case in Golaghat, the state's Congress President Bhupen Kumar Borah on Friday apologised over his controversial remark about Lord Krishna.

Sources said that he may interact with Swayamsevaks and speak to participants of the Sangh Shiksha Varg (2nd year), a training camp that began on July 12 and will end on August 1 in Hojai district in Assam.

The Central government has informed the Supreme Court that investigation has been transferred to the CBI in relation to the disturbing incident where two young tribal women were paraded naked on a road by a large mob in Manipur.

Nagaland Police have constituted a high level committee, headed by an Inspector General of Police (IGP), to investigate the involvement of a police officer and five others in the unauthorised transportation of ammunition, an official said on Thursday. 

Police in Guwahati confiscated fake Indian currency notes (FICN) worth about Rs 2 lakhs, officials said, adding that one person has been apprehended. The seizure was made in the Garchuk area of the city during an operation based on specific input from informants.

In a major crackdown on narcotics, Assam Police seized drugs worth Rs 35 crore in Cachar district and arrested two persons in connection, officials said on Thursday.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Wednesday criticised the European Parliament for taking up the issue of ongoing ethnic violence in the state and urged the neighbouring northeastern states "not to poke their nose" in the state's internal issue.

A group of armed attackers on Wednesday set on fire at least 30 abandoned houses and shops in Manipur’s Moreh town, along Myanmar border, and the security forces immediately rushed to the areas and dispersed them, officials said.

The High Court directions came after a Public Interest Litigation filed earlier seeking restoration of internet services in Manipur, where internet suspension continued after the outbreak of the ethnic violence between the non-tribal Meitei and tribal Kuki communities since May 3.

The ‘Solidarity March’, which was held in Aizawl and various other districts simultaneously, has also strongly condemned the Central and Manipur government for the "brutal attacks" on the tribals and atrocious sexual assaults on the tribal women.

Assam Police have seized drugs worth Rs 45 crore in the Cachar district and arrested three peddlers, out of which one was shot while trying to flee from custody, a top official said.

The Manipur Police on Monday arrested one more accused in connection with the stripping and alleged sexual assault of two women. So far, since a purported video of the incident recently surfaced online, the police have arrested seven accused in the case.  

As many as 718 Myanmar nationals, including 301 children and 208 women, have entered into Manipur’s Chandel district due to the ongoing clashes between the Army and the civil forces in the country, an official said on Monday.

Manipur Police’s Cyber Crime Branch on Sunday registered a case for spreading false news against a political leader with intent to cause injury, and damage to his reputation and create serious breach of law and order, officials said.

"I have not come here to do any politics, but to assist people. I would appeal to the PM and Union Minister for WCD to come, visit the state and listen the hapless people,” Maliwal told the media immediately after her arrival at the Imphal airport.

Amid reports of many Meitei community people leaving Mizoram following an “advisory” by former militants in the state, the Mizoram government has assured the safety and security of Meitei residents.

The Mizoram government has apparently been left embarrassed as at least 58 Meiteis left Aizawl on Sunday in an Alliance Airlines Aizawl-Imphal-Silchar flight.  Sources said no additional flight was arranged between Aizawl and Imphal on Sunday.
