A 12-hour shutdown, called by the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), was observed in tribal-dominated Kangpokpi district on Thursday to mark 90 days of ethnic violence in Manipur.

At least 17 people were injured on Thursday during clashes with security forces in Manipur's Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts ahead of a mass burial of victims killed in the ethnic violence, officials said.

He told media persons that the in-service government doctors not availing NPA may be allowed to give private consultations and services with prior approval of the competent authority to the needy patients strictly during non-working hours.

As part of the program which will run from October 1 to 15, the Ministers will take stock of the ground situation of the state government’s beneficiary schemes and development work, according to a senior officer.

Following widespread outrage over a video that showed some 300 youths being trained to handle arms at a camp organised by the Rashtriya Bajrang Dal in Assam's Mangaldai town, the state DGP has issued a probe into the incident.

Mizoram Students' Union (MSU) on Monday urged the state Governor, Hari Babu Kambhampati, to resolve the issues and problems of state's students studying and seeking admission in Imphal-based Central Agriculture University (CAU).

Manipur government on Monday asked people and organisations to desist from spreading, publishing and generating fake news, lies, rumours or misinformation regarding the ongoing situation in the state otherwise stern action would be taken under the laws and it will be treated as sedition.

The Mizoram government, following an instruction from the Home Ministry, has also started the process of collecting biometrics of Myanmar nationals staying in the state since February 2021, an official said on Sunday. 

These three constitutional autonomous bodies, formed through elections, look after the overall welfare and development of the Lai, Mara, and Chakma tribals, living along borders with Myanmar and Bangladesh.

The parliamentary delegation of INDIA is on a two-day visit to Manipur who arrived in the state on Saturday. They visited relief camps in Churachandpur, Bishnupur and Imphal West districts and interacted with the affected people on the first day.

Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Saturday met two young tribal women, who were paraded naked by a mob in the state on May 4, and handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh each to their families.

“There is a network of brokers who bring Rohingyas into Tripura and from there to Assam and the rest of the country. Our Police are in Tripura now working with the state government to take action against them,” the Chief Minister said.

The Manipur government -- on the instructions of the Home Ministry -- on Saturday began collecting the biometrics of illegal Myanmar immigrants in the northeastern state, an official said, adding the exercise would be completed by September. 

A delegation of 21 MPs from 16 parties of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) arrived in Imphal on Saturday on a two-day visit to assess the ground situation in the violence-hit Manipur.

At least two people were killed and six others, including security personnel, injured in different incidents in Manipur while attackers set fire to six houses in Bishnupur, police said on Friday night.

A moderate intensity earthquake, measuring 4 on the Richter Scale, hit Arunachal Pradesh’s Siang district and adjoining areas on Friday, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said.
