Tripura Historical Society has declared three Awards for best research and best books on the history of Tripura.
The awards – Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya Award, Rajmala Award and Jahar Acharjee Award – will be given to the scholars and authors in an attempt to encourage historical research on the state.
Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Tripura University Prof V L Dharurkar, who has been elected as the new president of the Tripura Historical Society, in his speech has declared the Awards in a meeting held on December 09 , 2018.
He has also declared that from now on January 21 every year will be celebrated as ‘History Day’.
Prof Dharurkar in his speech has emphasized on the need of exhaustive studies and research oriented activities on the history of the state.
“History is an important and live instrument to understand the socio-economic development of the people. It is now high time that we attach due importance to the historical research on the state so that its development process can be understood and then bolstered in right perspective”, says Prof Dharurkar.
In his speech while the Vice Chancellor has dwelt on the potentials of Tripura rivers for waterways transportation and connectivity in keeping in mind the South East Asia, he has also called upon the researcher to explore the development of villages along the rivers in the state.
