Coming down heavily on the centre over using the existing Assam Rifles' ground for sport activities, the Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Tuesday said, "Even if the centre shows apathy on it the state Left front government shall built stadium using Assam Rifles' ground."
Sarkar was speaking at the inaugural programme of newly build NRCC indoor stadium at the state’s capital town.
"The state has been mulling the centre and the Assam Rifles authority to build the stadium, but none has shown interest in this," adding Sarkar said, "For the interest of the sport lovers of this state, we shall never be tracked from building this stadium."
Sarkar said, “Despite financial crunch the state government shall take all necessary steps towards building the stadium even if the centre do not show interest on it.”
Besides, Sarkar in view of up gradation of the existing Dasharath Deb football stadium which also has its indoor event facilities said, “The Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) has agreed to floor Rs. 250 crore and the rest shall be floored by the state government.”
He said that once the stadium is upgraded this shall have all modern facilities to attract sport persons from abroad.
However, Rs. 45 crore is being spent to build the 2100 seated NRCC indoor stadium launched today. The stadium covers a total of 3726 square meter of which the play ground covers a total of 1200 square meter.
