Security tightened for conducting free and fair elections

AGARTALA:

With the countdown of the 2018 Tripura Assembly polls security has been tightened across the state to conduct a free and fair election of February 18. An adequate security arrangement have been undertaken to avoid any untoward incident on Sunday so that the electorates can cast their vote without any fear and terror.

Reportedly, The Border Security Force (BSF) is keeping a close vigil along the 856-kilometre-long Indo-Bangla border in the state to avoid any illegal infiltration during the crucial election hours.

Altogether 300 companies of central paramilitary forces have been deployed on election duty and have already dispersed for their duty zones. Adequate central paramilitary forces (CPF) and state police were deployed across the state.

Strict security measures have been taken to check inter-state movement of weapons and other goodies and the matter was also taken up with the neighboring Assam police and Mizoram police.

The third smallest state Tripura is set to go on polls on February 18, 2018. A total of 297 candidates are in the fray this time, up from 249 in 2013.
