Re-poll for two seats of Gram Panchayat by- election held today within an environment of threat, panic and fear at Khowai today.
Sources said that voting conducted for seats no 3 and 4 under ward no-2 of Laxmi Narayanpur Gram Panchayat.
IPFT raised allegation of malpractice in by-poll at two seats on September 30. As a result Election Commission decided to conduct re-poll which held today at Khamatila School under Khamartila area. But the situation turned violent by posing threat and panic. The people of non-tribal section took shelter at Khamatila School by leaving their house.
At last re-poll conducted in presence of large number of security personnel. Election department sources said that the percentage of turnout was 88 percent. The counting of re-poll will be held on October 7.
A suppressed tension is prevailing in the area at present although the environment became quiet.
